JOB: Research Associate, John Rylands Library Special Collections, The University of Manchester – School of Arts, Languages and Cultures. Full Time. Salary: £30,738 to £37,768 per annum. Job Ref: HUM-07855. Available from 1 June 2016 to 31 July 2017.
The John Rylands Research Institute is seeking to appoint a Research Associate as part of its team who will work on the University of Manchester Library’s Special Collections. You will carry out original high quality research on the Special Collections, working in partnership with the Library’s curatorial staff.
You will also prepare high quality grant applications, disseminate research findings, and play an active role in the Institute, including organising, attending and contributing to seminars, lectures and conferences. You will be supervised by Professor Peter E. Pormann, Director of the John Rylands Research Institute.
You will be expected to hold a Doctorate on a topic related to the Library’s Special Collections. Knowledge of more than one language relating to Special Collections and experience of writing grant applications with a successful track record in grant applications is desirable.
You will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to work independently and as part of a multidisci- plinary team, and meet strict deadlines.
The John Rylands Research Institute was established in 2013 as a unique partnership between The University of Manchester Library (one of the largest academic library services in the UK) and the University’s Faculty of Humanities. Its activity extends across all the University’s faculties and is truly interdisciplinary.
The Institute aims to uncover, explore, unravel and reveal hidden ideas and knowledge contained within our world-leading Special Collections. We are creating an international community of scholars and researchers across many disciplines, to support research and to bring this information to the wider academic community and public.
The post will be based at the John Rylands Library (Deansgate) or the Main Library (on campus), although research may require you to travel to other libraries and conferences.
