The Institute is located within the University of London’s School of Advanced Study. The School of Advanced Study is a unique institution in UK higher education. Comprising ten postgraduate institutes and a variety of central academic initiatives, it is located within the Bloomsbury precinct of the University in the intellectual heart of London. It is the UK’s national and international centre for the support, promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities, broadly defined. It does this in collaboration with other organisations, notably the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), the British Academy (BA), learned societies and government agencies.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a track record of successful academic and managerial leadership and of securing external research funding. They will be a scholar of international standing in an area of study relevant to the Institute and be able to communicate in at least one of the following languages: German, French, Italian.

This is a professorial appointment and a secondment will be considered. We particularly welcome female applicants and those from an ethnic minority, as they are under-represented within the University of London at this level.

Closing Date: Monday 22 September 2014.
